Most metal raw materials used in sheet metal stamping companies are the coil type. A metal coil must be uncoiling and levelled to eliminate internal stress, then fed into the stamping press machine.

For a loop type coil feeding line, there will be a material loop between each two equipment, means all of them need an inverter for speed control, even so, the running match will not be fully synchronized, which will affect the precision of feeding. What will cause the inaccurate feeding of the servo feeder? How to solve the feeding accuracy problem?

Inaccuracy feeding occasionally happens in sheet metal coil  feeding process. There are various reasons that caused the feeding accuracy problem, HongEr summarized the main causes and solutions for the inaccurate feeding of NC servo feeder.

Uneven feed roller pressure

The sheet metal coil will be always biased in one direction because of the uneven feed roller pressure, which will cause inaccurate feeding.

Solution: If the coil sheet always biased to the left, it means the pressure on the left is too large. At this time, turn the left pressure adjustment nut counterclockwise to reduce the left spring pressure until the material runs back to the correct position, or turn the right pressure adjustment nut clockwise to increase the right side spring pressure.

Material deformation

The coil material is too soft and easy to deform will also cause inaccurate feeding, such as copper, aluminum. Excessive pressure on the upper roller causes soft material deformation and bias. The coil sheet will sometimes go to the left side and sometimes go to the right side. 

Solution: Please unplug the lower tube of the release air cylinder and fold it up. If the material is still deformed, please rotate the two pressure adjustment nuts counterclockwise to release the pressure. It’s very important for us to know your coil material kind before produce a servo feeder machine. Please confirm your feeding material with our sales before purchasing. 

Coil material uneven or burrs

The thickness of the two sides of the material is different or the material has severe burrs, will cause the material to always be biased to one side when feeding.

Solution: Adjust the pressure adjustment nut and change the inlet locating wheel to the inlet locating plate. Otherwise, it can only be solved by replacing the materials.

Machining or assembly failure

Wrong machine processing or assembly will also cause inaccurate feeding. This problem doesn't happen in HongEr servo feeders yet, if any fault of our servo feeder, please contact us now to solve the problem in time.

9 things you need to check daily when operating a servo roll feeder machine.

  1. Check if all the screws parts are in good condition without loose.

  2. Check if the pneumatic tube is ok without leaking.

  3. Check if the water filter is dry, if no, please drain water away.

  4. Make sure the pressure regulator is setting right, we suggest 3 kg/cm2

  5. Lubricate the transmission gears when needed (ISO VG320 ~ VG370)

  6. Make sure the extension wiring is ok.

  7. Check if the feeding rolls are clean, if no, please clean it immediately.

  8. Check the control panel, make sure the switch, light and monitor are in normal conditions.

  9. Make sure the solenoid valve is clean.

What is a good uncoiler? Why your coil reels are different? How many types of uncoiler machines do you manufacture?

Uncoilers, also know as decoiler, stock reels or coil reels, is a coil handling equipment for in sheet metal forming industry. It uncoils the metal strip from a metal coil, and feed the strip to the next work station in a sheet metal processing line, such as coil straighteners, press feeders, etc.

Depends on different industry application, an uncoiler machine can be applied in metal stamping lines, laser cutting lines, roll forming lines or cut to length lines, etc, which make it be widely used in machinery, automotive, electrical appliance, construction industries.

A spindle is a critical component for an uncoiler/coil reel structure, it has two functions, one is expanded to the desired size to support and hold on the metal coil, another one is driving the steel coil to rotate. A quality uncoiler spindle should have very good load-bearing performance and with fatigue resistance.

An expansion movement of the uncoiler spindle is finished in three ways, manual expansion, pneumatic expansion, and hydraulic expansion.

The manual expansion is suitable for light-duty metal coils, there is a removable handle on the mandrel center, rotating the handle can push the support rod for spindle expansion.As for the hydraulic uncoiler, the support rod is pushed by a hydraulic cylinder for a smooth expansion. which makes it perfectly suitable for medium duty and heavy duty metal coils. When the uncoiler spindle is rotating, the hydraulic cylinder on the spindle will rotate together. One end of the pipeline is connected to the hydraulic cylinder, and the other end is connected to the hydraulic station.

There’re two methods for a spindle rotating, one is positive way, driven by the uncoiler motor, another one is passive way driven by the next coil processing station, such as coil straighteners or press feeders. That why we have motorized uncoilers and non-motorized uncoilers, also know as pull-off type uncoilers.

Different uncoilers are used for different metal coil processing, a single end coil reel is suitable for most of the sheet metal stamping line. As for the high speed laminating stamping line, a double-end coil reel is a must have for quick metal coil changes.
